Professor Kazunari Kurita is a distinguished researcher in semiconductor device engineering, widely recognized for his pioneering contributions to gettering technologies for advanced CMOS image sensors. With more than three decades of combined academic and industrial experience, he has played a leading role in shaping silicon wafer design strategies for next‑generation imaging devices.

He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Kanagawa Institute of Technology in 2002, following his M.E. and B.E. degrees from Tohoku University and Akita University. His early career at Mitsubishi Materials Corporation focused on defect engineering for DRAM and NAND‑Flash memory wafers, which later led to his long‑term tenure at SUMCO Corporation, where he currently serves as Senior Chief Engineer of R&D.

Professor Kurita has been honored with multiple awards, including the Technical Award from the Surface Science Society of Japan, and has twice been recognized as a Golden Reviewer by the IEEE Electron Devices Society. Beyond his technical achievements, he is known for his collaborative spirit, mentorship, and commitment to bridging academic research with practical semiconductor innovation.

 

Student and Research Members

Our research group is currently preparing to welcome future graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who wish to engage in experimental studies related to molecular ion implantation, advanced annealing technologies, wafer bonding, and trace impurity characterization. New members will have opportunities to present their work at international conferences and publish in peer‑reviewed journals, supported by the group’s strong academic–industrial foundation.

We aim to build a diverse and international research team, and we actively encourage motivated young researchers from around the world to join us in advancing next‑generation CMOS image sensor technologies.
